Red Cats Brings Indoor Football to Rome, Georgia

The American Arena League (AAL) announced this week that Rome, Georgia will once again be home to indoor football.  The new team introduced at the Red Cats will play their home games at the Forum River Center when the 2027 season kicks off next April.  

The Red Cats named James Moreland as the team's head coach.  Moreland is a 13-year veteran in arena football.  

The Red Cats name comes from a previous developmental team Moreland worked with - the Peach State Cats.  They wanted to keep the Cat theme going and liked the color red.

The AAL is a lower-tiered indoor league which had four teams this season.  In addition to Rome, the league plans to add five other teams.  The Columbus (GA) Lions won the league championship last month.

Rome had the Renegades from 2005-2006 which played in the defunct National Indoor Football League, American Indoor Football League.  The Renegades were runner-up finishers in the championship games.  The Georgia Fire played one season in 2014 in the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) finishing 4-8.
