Wrestball: Full-Contact Basketball

What happens when you put basketball together with wrestling?

You might guess the NBA.  But that's another subject for another forum.

Wrestball is a hybrid sport that can be played in two different formats: a 5-on-5 full court game or a 3-on-3 half court version. Points get awarded for successful shots and wrestling techniques. Each play starts with a one-on-one clash for ball control, shifting into a team phase with throws, passes and scoring at the hoop.  Like basketball, the objective is to score by throwing the ball through a hoop. However, unlike basketball, wrestling moves are permitted when battling for possession.

Wrestball features a high-intensity, full-contact hybrid sport that combines basketball, wrestling, and rugby. The game actually originated in Russia in the 1920s, the game features no dribbling, and players can physically wrestle, tackle, and suplex their opponents to win possession of the ball before shooting at a hoop.

Some of the rules include:

No Dribbling: Players cannot dribble the ball. They must pass and carry the ball like in rugby.

Wrestling for Possession: There are no traditional jump balls. Each play begins with players wrestling for control of the ball, and wrestling moves are permitted during active gameplay.

Scoring: Points are awarded for successful shots, with dunks typically worth two points, and shots outside the three-point arc worth more. Points can even be earned by executing successful wrestling techniques like suplexes on opponents.
