Atlanta Joins NWSL
The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) officially announced that the expansion team in Atlanta will be called Atlanta City FC. The team will begin play in 2028. Atlanta will join Columbus, Ohio as the new clubs for the league next season. The team is owned by Arthur Blank who also owns the men's Atlanta United FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Atlanta Falcons. The team will play in Mercedez-Benz Stadium.
The official team colors are Atlanta red, Georgia peach, black char, platinum metallic and dogwood white. The crest features a phoenix with feathers forming an “A” for Atlanta and tree roots “to represent quiet strength,” according to the team.
Atlanta previously had two professional women's teams named the Atlanta Beat from 2001-2003 in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) and also in the Women's Professional Soccer League (WPSL) from 2010-2012.
