San Diego Wins 17th Indoor Soccer Title
The San Diego Sockers rule the indoor soccer turf. Since their inception in 1978, the Sockers have dominated the niche sport of indoor soccer.
They did it again on Monday night as they clinched the Ron Newman Cup defeating the Milwaukee Wave in front of a packed home crowd at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California.
San Diego sockered Milwaukee 10-3 in the Game Three of the championship series to win their first Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) title since 2022. They defeated Florida Tropics SC in a two-game sweep.
The Sockers scored less than five minutes into the series deciding game when they capitalized on a turnover by Milwaukee goalkeeper Jerry Perez who had come forward as a sixth attacker but Sebastian Mendez put the ball in the goal. Mario Alavrez tied it up but San Diego's Drew Ruggles connected on a one-timer 39 seconds later and the Sockers proceeded to pull way to take control of the game. The Sockers took a 5-1 lead at halftime.
