Beach Football League Enters Second Season

The snow hasn’t completely melt and winters grip is still around us but it will soon be time for the Beach Football League (BFL) to return.

The world’s first professional football league on sand. We have beach volleyball so why not?

The league began their 2026 tour over the past weekend in Santa Monica, California.

Founded by veteran NFL player, former Patriot, and 2X Super Bowl Champion, Tully Banta-Cain, the BFL has been making headlines since its first event in 2024 at Hampton Beach, Hampton, NH. Banta-Cain formed the league to create a new version of football that can be played on any beach, a game that is safer, with less impact, and without extensive equipment needs, making it a more accessible sport for players of all ages.

Here are some of the unique rules of Beach Football:
  • Structure: 40.5-yard by 30.6-yard field, 2 halves of 15 minutes.
  • Tackle/Flag: A 6-point touchdown format, with 4 downs to score, using waist-high tackling or flag-pulling rules.
  • Equipment: Mandatory mouthpieces; soft-shell helmets/pads are required for some formats.
