En Garde for a New League

The sport of fencing is over 3,000 years old and is still a competitive sport all over the world as well as in some high schools and colleges. There is a new effort to establish a professional fencing league.
Olympic fencing champion Miles Charley-Watson is spearheading the effort to organize fencing into the World Fencing League (WFL). The league is backed by the Chiron Sports Group and co-founded with fencing superstar Lee Keifer.
The league will be a fast-paced, fan-friendly competition format complete with simplified rules, AI-powered blade tracking and team-based matchups. The first event is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on April 25, 2026 with male and female fencers competing for a $100,000 prize. The competition will feature 12 elite fencers competing in mixed-gender teams.
The league plans to launch a full global season by the end of 2026 with events across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
