Wilmington Sharks Beat Macon Bacon for title

The championship of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) came down to the winner-take-all Game 3 of the Pettit Cup Championship as the Wilmington Sharks smoked the Macon Bacon 11-0 in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Macon took Game 1 of the series 3-2 in Macon then took a 7-2 lead in Game 2 in Wilmington before the Sharks stormed back to win 8-7 in 12 innings.  Wilmington has won the title in two of the past three seasons.

Wilmington got off to a quick start in the series deciding game as locals Quinn Bentley and Tanner Berry blasted home runs in the first inning and starting pitcher Kyler Hansen helped to shutdown Macon's lineup.  

Wilmington clinched the #2 seed in the playoffs and knocked off Holly Springs 9-1 then swept Morehead City 9-8, 6-4 in the East Divisional Championship Series.

Macon rode a 13-game winning streak into the playoffs after one of the best seasons in team history.  The Bacon were the #1 seed and eliminated Forest City 17-2, 4-5, 7-2.

The Coastal Plain League is a wood-bat collegiate summer baseball league, featuring college players recruited throughout the United States.  There are 15 teams located throughout the Southeast.
