Atlanta Gets Women's Pro Soccer Team
The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced that Atlanta, Georgia will join the league in 2028. Atlanta will become the 17th league franchise and owned by Arthur Blank who also owns the Atlanta United and Atlanta Falcons. Blank reportedly paid $165 million for the expansion franchise.
This will be Atlanta's third women's pro soccer team. The Atlanta Beat played in the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) from 2001-2003 and then in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) from 2010-2012. The Beat was successful on the field finishing runner-up in the 2001 and 2003 Founders Cup.
The team will play their home matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The NWSL is currently playing in their 13th season with 14 teams playing a 26-game schedule.
