New Women's Baseball League Picks Four Cities

AP: Women's Professional Baseball League launching in 2026 offers new hope for athletes - WPBL: Women's Pro Baseball League

The proposed Women's Professional Baseball League (WPBL) announced their first four cities to play in the league.

New York, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco are planning to take the field in 2026. These four cities were selected based on their fan bases as well as natural rivalries from their Major League Baseball (MLB) brothers.  Team names and logos were not announced at this time but may be forthcoming.

The league which is co-founded by Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach for an MLB team with the Oakland Athletics in 2015, announced plans last year to launch in 2026 as a six-team circuit with a regular season, playoffs and all-star game. When it debuts, it will be the first pro league for women since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League - immortalized in "A League of Their Own" - dissolved in 1954.

The WPBL will now launch with four teams for the inaugural season, with 15 players per club.

Instead of playing in the announced cities, all of the WPBL's games will be played at a neutral venue in 2026, which the league said will be announced at a later date.  Personally I think this is not a good idea.  These cities need to be able to support their teams and establish their fanbases instead of watching them from a neutral site like Orlando or Phoenix.
