Make A Fist!

For the aggressive person seeking a sport, ever thought about fistball?

Yes, it's a legit sport.

Fistball is a net sport, similar to volleyball, where two teams of five players compete on a grass court. The objective is to hit a ball over a net with the hand or fist, forcing the opposing team to make an error or miss a return.

To play fistball, you might have to go to Germany, Austria or Switzerland where it is popular with organized leagues.

The sport is played on a 50x20 meter grass court which is divided into two halves by a net.  Each team has five players and must use their hand or fist to strike the ball.  The ball is allowed to bounce once on the ground before being struck.  A set is won by the team that reaches 11 points with a two-point lead or 15 points.  A match is won by the team that wins the most sets out of five.

The Fistball World Championships are held every four years.  The last one was held in Mannheim, Germany in 2023 with Germany winning their 33rd Gold Medal.

While not as popular in the United States, the sport is governed by the United States Fistball Association.  (link)

The only professional fistball leagues are in Germany.  The top fistball league in Germany is called the Deutsche Faustball-Liga (DVL). It is the highest level of competition for men's and women's teams in Germany and features the top clubs and players. The DVL is a professional league, and the teams compete in both indoor and outdoor seasons.  Germany's Fabian Sagstetter and Patrick Thomas are considered the sports' best players.

Fistball is not an Olympic sport and at this time and due to its limited popularity does not expect to be considered.
