New Women's League Tips Off

The league was founded in 2023 by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, in part to allow WNBA players to play domestically and to bypass complications from the WNBA's prioritization rule for players who choose to play overseas in the WNBA offseason.
Unrivaled will offer players in the league contract opportunities to receive the highest average salary in U.S. women's professional sports and a minimum six-figure salary. The winner of the 2025 1v1 mid-season tournament will earn a minimum of $250,000.
The games are will feature seven-minute quarters, with the final quarter played to a target score that is 11 points higher than the highest score at the end of the third quarter. Fouls are one free throw attempt each, and players foul out with six. The shot clock is 18 seconds.
Six teams with 36 of the best women’s basketball players in the world, including Sabrina Ionescu ad Brittney Griner, will compete in 3-on-3, full court games for the next nine weeks. Other top players include Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Angel Reese and Courtney Vandersloot along with many others.
Caitlin Clark opted not to participate this season. The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year reportedly turned down an offer of $1 million plus equity in the league, opting not to play organized basketball during her first professional offseason.
The teams will not be city-based but will include:
Games will be played at Wayfair Arena in Medley, Fla., which is in the Miami metropolitan area, on mostly Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. There is one Thursday and one Tuesday game during the season, and the semifinals are on a Sunday. TNT will broadcast all Friday and Monday games, while TruTV handles Saturday broadcasts. All games will be available to live stream on Max.
