Surviving Arena Football League Teams Create New League
The Arena Football League (AFL) its third attempt at a comeback this season with a lofty goal but only eight of the 16 teams which started the season limped to a championship game played at a shopping mall. The remaining eight teams have now formed a new league called Arena Football One (AF1) with plans to play next season.
The eight teams include: Albany Firebirds, Billings Outlaws, Orlando Predators, Nashville Kats, Salina Liberty, Southwest Kansas Storm, Washington Wolfpack and Wichita Regulars. There could be new teams added to this lineup.
Personally, I think there are too many arena/indoor football leagues playing. It was my hope that the financially strongest franchises from the AFL remains would join the Indoor Football League (IFL) which is the most stable league. I don’t think another form of the AFL would be a good idea. The IFL has bigger markets and more stability.
Perhaps the most ideal arena/football league would be one league with separate classifications where players or teams could move up/down like in Major League Baseball (MLB). I could see the IFL having AAA, AA and A classifications. Right now it seems that arena/indoor football continues to evolve. It will be interesting to see how this new Arena Football One league develops going into next season.
