Rock Lobsters To Take The Ice
The newest expansion franchise in the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) will be the Athens Rock Lobsters.
Athens, Georgia will be the home of the Rock Lobsters.
I'm not sure how the Rock Lobster connects to Athens. Other suggestions included Athenians and Owls. The Rock Lobsters won by 565 votes over Classic City Panic from the 8,000 votes cast.
Apparently the name comes from the B-52s music group whose debut single shares the same name. The logo will feature a lobster holding a hockey stick which doubles as an electric guitar.
The Rock Lobsters will play their first home game on October 26th in the new 5,500-seat Classic Center Arena. It will be interesting to see how the Rock Lobsters will succeed in the heart of Georgia Bulldog country.
The FPHL is a single-A minor professional hockey league with teams in Connecticut, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina and Virginia. The other Georgia team in the FPHL is the Columbus River Dragons.
