New Roller Derby League Planned

Roller Derby has been around in some form since the 1930s.  From leagues to entertainment to the numerous flat-track teams around the United States.  The Extreme Roller Derby (ERD) is planning a new variation to the sport in 2025.

The most notable change is the track.  The ERD will feature the "Extreme Ramp".  This addition will be 25 feet high and at a 45-degree angle.  The ERD banked track will also have 15 feet added to the straightaway to create more action.

The league will have eight city-named teams but will all play in the Extreme RollerDome in Costa Mesa, California.  The arena will have a seating capacity of 2,000.

Some other notable features include:

  • Extreme substitutions with female jammers vs male blockers and male jammers vs. female blockers.
  • Jammers can score double points or more in Extreme Substitution wars.
  • Each city team will field a men's and women's team.
  • Regular season will run from January through October.
  • Twenty (20) regular season matches will be played per team.
  • League matches will be played on Thursday and Saturday nights.
  • Playoffs will be held in November and December.

The league will hold tryouts in May in the Hangar at the OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa as they look for the 100 skaters that will fill the rosters of the eight teams.  Although the games will be played in California, the league hopes that today's live streaming technology will help fans to get close to the track and immersed into the new edition of roller derby.
