Knoxville, Tennessee - Offensive woes continued to hinder the Tennessee Hound Dogs as the Alabama Hammers powered their way to a 44-13 win to remain undefeated.
Hound Dogs' head coach Colton Preston was disappointed in the teams' performance.
"Our problems on offense were really exposed today. Alabama showed why they are one of the best teams in the nation. We never got our offense on track which has been a common theme over the past several weeks. We need to make some changes."
Tennessee took the early lead on a 60-yard field goal from David Coutee. The Hammers answered with a seven-play, 69-yard drive which resulted in nine-yard touchdown pass from Landry Sullivan to Terrence Diggs to take a 7-3 lead.
In the second quarter, Tariq Duvernay-Tardif booted a 20-yard field goal then the Hammers pounded out an impressive 13-play drive which covered 97 yards on their next drive. Jerrick Hansen finished the final yard on the drive with a dive over the line into the endzone to put the Hammers up 17-3. Wendell Simon had a stunning 74-yard punt return for a touchdown later in the quarter to extend the Hammers' lead to 24-3.
Alabama didn't let up in the second half as the defense put a clamp down on the Hound Dogs. Rich Lewis had a five-yard run in the fourth quarter for only touchdown in the game for Tennessee.
"As I said before, David (Coutee) can't be our only offense. We're glad we have him but our offense needs to produce touchdowns and we aren't doing that. We will make some changes this week," said Preston.
With the loss, the Hound Dogs (7-3) falls a game behind North Carolina in the Southeast Division while the Hammers (10-0) continue to lead the division. Tennessee will play the Georgia Thrashers next week in Atlanta.
