In Germany's version of the Super Bowl, the Pottsdam Royals defeated the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns 34-7 in German Bowl XLIV. It was the first championship for Pottsdam and avenged their loss to the Unicorns in last year's title game. Potsdam quarterback Jaylon Henderson was the key. Although he completed only 10 of 14 passes for 102 yards, the elusive signal caller rushed for 140 yards and three scores. Running back Heiko Bals had three carries for 41 yards while Brandon Polk scored on a 12 yard carry. Wide receiver Thomas Jenkins had two catches for 39 yards and Simon Fons two for 35. Read more...

As the regular season winds down, five of six playoff spots have been clinched in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (12-4) and British Columbia Lions (12-5) have clinched in the West while the Toronto Argonauts (14-2), Montreal Allouettes (10-7) and Hamilton Tigercats (8-9) have clinched spots in the East. The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Calgary Stampeders continue their battle for the final playoff spot in the West Division this week.
