Hound Dogs Blast Wyoming in Home Opener
Knoxville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Hound Dogs (2-0) amassed 444 yards of total offense and dominated the Wyoming Mustangs (1-1), 41-10, in their home opener in Knoxville.
"It was a strong performance by our front lines both offense and defense. To get that much yardage in a game is something that will make my job a lot easier," said Head Coach Colton Preston. "It was good to see our defense show up in a big way this week."
The Hound Dogs drove down the field on their first possession of the game and scored on a pass from quarterback Richard Lewis to Jonathan Bryd for the first touchdown. Lewis was 31-of-43 for 318 yards and three touchdowns and one pick in the game.
"Our offense was clicking today," Lewis said. "The o-line made it look easy today. They gave me good sight lines and it was like we practiced."
The Hound Dogs were ball hogs in the game holding the ball for 40:49 compared to Wyoming's 19:11.
Tennessee took a 20-3 lead into halftime then on their first time with the ball in the second half, they got a 27-yard run from Byrd to give the Hound Dogs a commanding 27-3 lead. Antonio Williams added another touchdown in the fourth when he snagged a pass from Lewis and rambled 13 yards eluding two Mustang defensive backs on his way to the end zone.
Wyoming got their only touchdown at the end of the game on an eight-yard pass from Martin Yanda to Eugene Pierre-Paul.
The Hound Dogs had a whopping 32 first downs in the game.
