Porvoon Butchers win Maple Bowl XLIV
The Butchers defeated the Seinjajoki Crocodiles 27-7 to win their seventh Finnish title. The Butchers took advantage of crucial turnovers in the second half by the Crocodiles. Read the game story here.
Porvoon's Brandon Wellington was the game's Most Valuable Player scoring the opening touchdown of the game and also tallied 10 solo tackles while forcing a fumble late in the game to seal the win.
Stuttgart and Frankfurt Advance to ELF Semifinals
The Frankfurt Galaxy and Stuttgart Surge won their wildcard games to advance to the European League of Football (ELF) semifinals this weekend.
The Galaxy defeated the Berlin Thunder 20-3 in their wildcard game while the Surge took care of the Panthers Wroclaw 37-14. Frankfurt will play the Rhein Fire and Stuttgart will play the Vienna Vikings.
German Football League Regular Season Ends
The Potsdam Royals finished first the North with an 11-1 record with the Dresden Monarchs and New Yorker Lions a game back at 10-2. In the South, there is a three-way tie at the top between the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns, Allgau Comets and Saarland Hurricanes all with 9-3 records.
In the quarterfinals, the Allgau Comets will play the New Yorker Lions, Potsdam Royals face the Ingolstadt Dukes, the Dresden Monarches play the Saarland Hurricanes and Schwabisch Hall Unicorns against the Berlin Rebels. The games will be played the weekend of September 23-24.
