USWNT: Divided We Fall
I remember how we watched with national pride when the 1980 USA Men's Hockey team upset the powerful USSR team in the Olympics and went on to win the Gold Medal. We were united as a nation to watch the "Miracle on Ice".
It is sad to see how far we have falling as we see how the United States Women's National Team lose to the Sweden in the FIFA Women's World Cup.
This team did not represent the country well and sought to use this platform for their politics by kneeling or not singing the national anthem.
I know our country has some serious issues but when you put on the uniform for the USA team, you do it for the ENTIRE country and its people, not for those things you want to pick and choose to represent. Any USA team should be an example to unite a country, not further divide it. That was the USWNT has done here. It should have been about the sport, not politics. I understand that whatever they choose to do about the national anthem is their right, but this platform is about unity, not division.
While the players have their right to do whatever, they also have the freedom NOT to represent the USA and try to bring unity also.
It was heartbreaking to read all of the comments following any story about the USWNT. There were very few comments in support but further hate and division about this team. I hate to say this, but the USWNT brought this upon themselves, and it found its way onto the field where they were ousted earlier than any other previous team.
You can't have it both ways. When you play for any USA team you play for EVERYONE, not just the ones you like. Same as we expect for our military.
It is time for all USA teams to stand up for united and not further air our dirty laundry to the world. Yes, we have our problems, but we need to put on a united front on the world's stage. You don't see any other country doing it.
USA teams....give us a reason to have pride again. Put the UNITED back in your game again.
