Danbury Takes Commissioner's Cup in FPHL
Danbury's Michael Marchesan gathered a rebound and fired a shot 11:58 into overtime to give the Hat Tricks their first Commissioner's Cup in the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL). The winning goal gave Danbury a 3-2 win over the Carolina Thunderbirds and clinched the series three games to two.Marchesan was awarded the FPHL's Playoff MVP Award. He had two goals in the championship deciding game and eight for the playoffs to pair with five assists for a total of 13 points in nine playoff games.
Carolina hammered the net with 11 shots in the third period, and on the seventh Thunderbirds power play of the night Carolina finally paid the chance off thanks to Jiri Pestuka with 5:55 left in regulation.
Danbury won the title in their third season of play in the FPHL. They lost to Columbus in the semifinals last year.
