Paris' American Football Team Changes Name to Musketeers
Paris' new European League of Football (ELF) announced that they have changed their name from "Saints" to "Musketeers" which is the name that team founders originally wanted to name the franchise heading into their first season in the league.
The name comes from the best-selling novel, "The Three Musketeers" as the team was finally able to secure the rights to the Musketeers name for the team.
One month ago, Paris announced they would go by the Saints for the duration of the 2023 season. They had also considered names such as Frogs, Towers, Gladiators and Knights. According to the American Football International news report, it now seems that the delay in naming was due to the Musketeers being unavailable as another organization in the France went by the same name – Mousquetaires Foot US – of Châtenay-Malabry.The Paris Musketeers also stated that all colors, branding and logos will remain as previously announced.
The Musketeers will play their first ELF game away against the Cologne Centurions on Saturday June 3, 2023. The season runs from June through September with the championship game scheduled to be played on September 24th in Duisburg, Germany.
The ELF is entering its third season with 17 teams. Paris joins Milano Seamen (Italy), Munich Ravens (Germany), Helvetic Guards (Switzerland), Fehervar Enthroners (Hungary) and Prague Lions (Czech Republic) as the ELF's newest teams.
Former Vanderbilt University coach Marc Mattioli is the Musketeers' head coach.
