New Lacrosse League Debuts

There is a new indoor lacrosse league which launched recently called the Professional Box Lacrosse Association (PBLA) with nine teams located in the Eastern United States.  The season runs through April.

The PBLA currently has the following teams:
  • Binghamton (NY) Bombers
  • Charlotte (NC) Bootleggers
  • Elmira (NY) Renegades
  • Hampton (VA) Hammerheads
  • Jim Thorpe (PA) All-Americans
  • New England Chowderheads (Portland, ME/Lowell, MA)
  • Salem (VA) Mayhem
  • Syracuse (NY) Spark
  • Trenton (NJ) Terror
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is the top indoor lacrosse league but the PBLA hopes to carve out a niche with growing the sport with local and homegrown talent in league cities.

Box (or indoor) lacrosse is a condensed version of the traditional sport, played within a contained surface. It is a combination of lacrosse, hockey and basketball, with a 30-second shot clock and the potential for goalies to set up scoring chances with an outlet pass in the blink of an eye.
