Indoor Soccer League Returns for 15th Season
The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) began its 15th season this week with 14 teams playing a 24-game schedule. The league divided into Eastern and Western Conferences with the top five teams in each conference qualifying for the postseason. The Mesquite Outlaws and Monterrey Flash returned to the league while the Rochester Lancers are sitting out this season. The Ontario Fury has been rebranded as the Empire Strykers.
Here is the 2022-2023 league alignment:
Eastern Conference
- Baltimore Blast
- Florida Topics SC
- Harrisburg Heat
- Kansas City Comets
- Milwaukee Wave
- St. Louis Ambush
- Utica City FC
The Florida Tropics have been one of the leading teams the past several seasons, just falling short of winning a league title. Perhaps this season will be the charm. After posting an 18-3-2 regular season record under head coach Clay Roberts, they lost to the Sockers in the championship series.
Western Conference
- Chihuahua Savage
- Dallas Sidekicks
- Empire Strykers
- Mesquite Outlaws
- Monterrey Flash
- San Diego Sockers
- Tacoma Stars
The San Diego Sockers won the championship last season and are again favored to win another.
The league hopes to return to pre-pandemic attendance levels. The MASL was averaging 2,554 fans per game in 2019-2020 season. The average was 1,847 last season.
