Ghost Pirates Win First Home Game

Savannah has waited two weeks into the ECHL season before its' new hockey team played their first home game at Enmarket Arena.  The wait was worth is as the Ghost Pirates satisfied a sell-out crowd of over 6,800 fans with a 5-1 win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

See the game report from Savannah's WTOC here.

The first period was scoreless; however, the second period was filled with action. Four minutes into the period, Spencer Naas scored the first home goal at Enmarket arena in Ghost Pirates history.  Just minutes later they saw another as Brandon Estes made it 2-0 Ghost Pirates - the first of two goals on the night for Estes.

That was all Savannah needed thanks to the play of Isaiah Saville in the net.

The 22-year-old Anchorage, Alaska native made 32 saves in the victory, his season debut for the Ghost Pirates.

The Savannah Ghost Pirates lead the ECHL South division with a 5-1 record.  The next home game is Thursday when the Ghost Pirates host the Florida Everblades.

Hockey officials are encouraged by the interest in the Hostess City.   There are plans of expanding hockey's growth in the area by building more rinks and developing the sport with youth leagues.

As a former resident of Savannah, it is exciting to witness the interest in the Ghost Pirates.  I am hopeful that I will have the opportunity to attend a game this season.  I am hopeful that the team will be a fixture in Savannah for many years to come.
