NAME CHANGE
Major League Quidditch (MLQ) will now be known as Major League Quadball as the league seeks to further distance itself from the Harry Potter franchise and avoid future legal issues with the sport. According to the league, the name is also an attempt to further grow the sport and avoid issues with Warner Brothers and their copyright on the quidditch name. The MLQ is currently in their 2022 season schedule.
NEW LEAGUES
The Professional Box Lacrosse Association (PBLA) will start playing in seven cities beginning this December. According to their Twitter posts, the league will have teams in Binghamton (NY), Charlotte (NC), Elmira (NY), Hampton Roads (VA), Springfield (MA), Syracuse (NY) and Trenton (NJ).
Major League Football (MLFB) teams are currently in training camp as they prepare for the first season with an abbreviated schedule which begins August 9th. The league will feature the Arkansas Attack, Ohio Force, Alabama Airborne and Virginia Armada.
CHAMPIONS
The North Carolina Rebels won the Spring title in the Coastal Football Alliance (CFA). They topped the Sumter Sharks 33-30 in the final.
The Bay Area Reapers from St. Petersburg, Florida won the Elite American Football League (EAFL) title over the Bold City Thunder in Elite Bowl I. The Reapers won 13-8 to finish undefeated.
The Tri-City Rush repeated as champions in the American West Football Conference (AWFC). The Rush dominated the Wenatchee Valley Skyhawks 57-32 to finish an undefeated season.
OTHER INDOOR FOOTBALL NEWS
The Indoor Football League (IFL) completed the regular season as the Frisco Fighters took the Eastern Division title with a 14-2 record and will play the Iowa Barnstormers in the playoffs this weekend. The Arizona Rattlers finished 13-3 and took the Western Division title. The Rattlers will host the Duke City Gladiators. In the other playoff games, The Quad Cities Steamwheelers will travel to play the Massachusetts Pirates. The Northern Arizona Wranglers will host the Tucson Sugar Skulls.
The San Antonio Gunslingers kept their slim playoff hopes alive in the National Arena League (NAL) with a shocking 60-52 win over the Jacksonville Sharks. In another shocking upset, the Columbus Lions knocked off the Carolina Cobras 47-46 to bump them from their first place in the league standings.
NEW TEAMS
The National Arena League announced that they will expand to Fayetteville, North Carolina next season.
Reports from the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) are that Utah will join the league in 2024 in addition to one more city. Sources say that Nashville, Tennessee is being considered.
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) plans to expand to Montreal for the 2022-2023 season. The PHF is the women's professional hockey league.
The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is planning to add expansion teams for the first time in 14 years. Philadelphia and Nashville are rumored to be at the top of the list as cities being considered.
