Colorado Mammoth Wins Lacrosse Title


The Colorado Mammoth won their second National Lacrosse League (NLL) title with a 10-8 win over the Buffalo Bandits in Game #3 of the championship finals thanks to the performance of Colorado goaltender Dillon Ward as he made an amazing 55 saves which was a championship game record.  Buffalo outshot Colorado 63-47 in the game.  Ward was named the finals Most Valuable Player.  The Mammoth broke open a 7-7 tie with 3:14 left in the game and then sealed it with an empty net goal. Zed Williams had four goals in the game for Colorado. 

The Bandits opened the best-of-three championship series with a thrilling 15-14 win in Game #1.  Colorado rallied late to win 11-8 in Game #2 to set up the series deciding game.

The Mammoth, just a 10-8 regular season record and third place in the Western Division, beat Calgary 16-12 in the Division Semifinal final and then San Diego Seals two games to one in the Division final.  Buffalo had the league's best record at 14-4.  They topped the Albany FireWolves 10-5 in the Eastern Division semifinals then swept the Toronto Rock 2-0 in the Division final.  This was the Bandits' third straight loss in the finals.  Their last title came in 2008.

Colorado's last title was in 2006 which also came against Buffalo.  They won that matchup 16-9.
