American West Football Conference Opens 3rd Season

The American West Football Conference (AWFC) opened their third season last week with six teams.  The league, which is not as well-known as some of the other indoor leagues, returned the Idaho Horsemen (Nampa), Oregon High Desert Storm (Redmond), Tri-City Rush (Pasco, Washington), Wenatchee Valley Skyhawks (Wenatchee,Washington) and added the Southern California Red Tails (City of Industry, California).  The league also replaced the Yakima Canines with a travel-only team called the Washington Elite.

The Tri-City Rush are the defending league champions.

Last year's Most Valuable Player was QB Les Obie of the Rush led the league last year with 1,888 yards passing with 47 touchdowns.  RB Keithon Flemming also from the Rush had 384 yards and 20 touchdowns.  Obie did not return to play for the Rush this season.   Flemming continued where he left off last year with 14 runs for 74 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-20 win over Idaho.

Each team will play 10 regular season games over 13 weeks this spring.  They have also agreed to play crossover games with the newly formed American Indoor Football Association (AIFA).
