American Football in Spain

American football has been played in Spain since 1995 with Liga Nacional de Futbol Americano (LNFA) being the top league which was created by a merger of several other leagues.  The league currently consists of 8 teams.  The Badalona Dracs are the current champions winning their fifth straight title recently by defeating the Las Rozas Black Demons 31-21 in the Spanish Bowl.  

Three American football fans got together in December 1987 to become founders of the Dracs - then known as the Drags.  They played the first American football game in Spain on March 19, 1988 where they lost to the Palermo Cardinals from Italy 18-12. The Dracs have won 11 titles.

Oscar Calatyud is the head coach.  Since taking over the Dracs prior to the 2006 season, he has led them to six Spanish league titles.  His overall record is 122-38-1 and since 2016 he has lost only two games again Spanish teams.  He has recently been named coach for Team Spain.

The league's season runs from late March to mid-May.
